C-Section & Cesarean Scar Massage
Reconnect with the body that carried you through.
A C-section — whether planned or unplanned — is major abdominal surgery, and the tissue around the incision doesn't always feel the same once it's healed on the surface. Many parents notice tightness, numbness, pulling, or reduced sensation around the scar, sometimes extending into the low back, hips, or abdomen.
C-section scar massage is specialized postpartum bodywork that brings gentle, focused attention to the incision site and the surrounding tissue. The goal isn't to erase the scar — it's to support comfort, mobility, circulation, and a sense of reconnection with an area of your body that went through significant change.
Scar tissue work is typically appropriate once the incision has fully closed and you've been cleared for touch to the area by your healthcare provider — usually around six weeks postpartum, though this varies person to person.
If you're unsure whether you're ready, that's a great question to bring to your OB, midwife, or pelvic floor therapist before booking. Every scar and every recovery timeline is different.
Sessions begin with a conversation about your birth, your healing so far, and how the area currently feels — sensitive, numb, tight, or some combination. From there, work is slow, gentle, and responsive, starting with light contact around the scar before progressing as your body allows.
This is broader postpartum bodywork, not a stand-alone scar treatment: sessions typically also address the low back, hips, and abdomen, since tension from pregnancy, birth, and recovery rarely stays contained to one area.
Sarah brings training in postnatal bodywork and hands-on experience supporting clients through cesarean recovery, working within a somatic, body-led approach rather than a fixed protocol. Work is always paced to your comfort and current stage of healing — nothing is forced.

How soon after a C-section can I get scar massage?
Most people are ready around six weeks postpartum, once the incision is fully closed and you've been cleared for touch to the area by your healthcare provider. If you're unsure, ask your OB or midwife before booking.
Will this work on older C-section scars, not just recent ones?
Yes. While early postpartum is a common time to start, many people seek out scar work months or years after their cesarean, especially if they've noticed lingering tightness or restricted movement near the scar.
Is C-section scar massage painful?
Sessions are gentle and paced to your comfort — work near the scar starts light and only progresses as your body allows. Some sensitivity or unusual sensation near the incision is common and is talked through as we go.
Does this replace pelvic floor therapy?
No. This is bodywork focused on the scar and surrounding soft tissue, not a substitute for pelvic floor physical therapy. Many clients use the two together, and Sarah is happy to coordinate with your other providers.
